Peanut Butter Mint Dog Treats
Updated: Sep 10, 2020
I don't know about your dog but my dog Stella has the worst breath. She is the cutest and loves to give out kisses liberally so I wanted to try making my own mint treats instead of forking over an arm and a leg for those minty dental treats. Check out this recipe:
1 cup apple sauce unsweetened (make sure there are not additives or xylitol as it's toxic for dogs)
1/2 cup peanut butter (also check ingredients to make sure there are no added sugars or chemicals)
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of oats
1 bunch of mint, chopped
1 bunch of parsley, chopped
1/2 cup of chicken stock
Set oven to 340 degrees.
Combine the flour, oats, and baking soda. Then add the egg, apple sauce and peanut butter and mix well. The mixture can be a bit heavy so combine it as well as you can and knead into it almost like dough. If necessary add more flour or a little water to change the consistency.
Once mixed, roll out the dough into about quarter inch thin sheet. I used an espresso cup as my cookie cutter but get create and use fun cookie cutters. and divide them up.
I used my silpat but put the treats on parchment paper or a greased pan and bake for 30 minutes. Once done, let them cool before you store them in air tight containers.
If you want to add CBD to your treats, feel free to add drops to them on top while cooling. Stella is about 20 pounds and I will add 5-8 drops depending. I like to use Fairwinds CBD companion.
Makes about 30 treats.
